The National Alliance on Mental Illness Hawaii State Chapter is raising awareness of mental illness through the 2021 annual State Conference from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. March 22 on Zoom from Honolulu.
Partnered with Mental Health America of Hawaii, NAMI Hawaii’s interactive virtual conference aims to connect Hawaii’s community with resiliency strategies as so many are faced with stress, mental health issues and mental illness.
Keynote speaker, Dr. Manu Aluli Meyer of University of Hawaii-West Oahu, will present “Community Resiliency through Aloha Practices” and how we can find healing in traditional Hawaiian practices such as basic hoopono ideas and gratitude songs.
There will be various interactive breakouts:
• Chair yoga with Mara J. Pike.
• “Finding Meaning in an Unbalanced World” with Dr. Mestisa Gass, program director of Mental Health America of Hawaii.
• “NAMI Support for Families and Peers” with Kathy Hammes, Family to Family teacher and support group facilitator.
• “Navigating the Mental Health System” with Kathleen Merriam, LCSW, CSAC.
• “Recovery and Self Discovery Through Art” with Nidhi Chabora, APRN president, and NJ Moses, vice president/art educator.
• “Recovery Vision Boards and Toolkits” with Anisa Wiseman, program director, NAMI Hawaii.
