DOH reports 6 new coronavirus cases on Hawaii Island, 1.3% positivity rate over last 7 days

The state Department of Health today reported six new coronavirus infections on Hawaii Island and 65 statewide.

There are also two new deaths reported on Oahu, bringing the state’s COVID-19 death toll since the pandemic began to 324, with 45 official deaths on Hawaii Island.

There are five COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized on the Big Island. Hawaii County has reported no coronavirus-related deaths in the past three weeks.

There were 45 new cases reported on Oahu, nine on Maui and five Hawaii residents diagnosed while out of state.

The total number of coronavirus cases by island since the start of the pandemic are 20,018 on Oahu, 2,088 in Hawaii County, 1,487 on Maui, 175 on Kauai, 106 on Lanai and 25 on Molokai. There are also 647 Hawaii residents diagnosed outside of the state. As a result of updated information, DOH said one Oahu case was removed from the total today.

Hawaii Island has had an average of 8.3 average daily cases reported in the past seven days, for a 1.3% positivity rate.

The statistics released today reflect the new infection cases reported to the department on Sunday. The daily case counts from Sunday are typically lower than the rest of the week due to reduced testing data on the weekends.

The U.S. coronavirus-related death toll surpassed 400,000 today with total infection cases across the nation were more than 24 million.
