According to data provided by the DOH, Hawaii County has a 1.9% test positivity rate, compared to a 2.8% positivity rate statewide. An average of 677 daily tests have been performed on the Big Island in the last seven days.
Three people are hospitalized and no deaths have been reported in the last two weeks, Hawaii County Civil Defense said in a message today.
“Because many Hawaii Island residents have chosen to follow safe practices and the preventive measures of face masks, distancing and limited gathering sizes, Hawaii remains a safe place,” Civil Defense said.
According to data from the DOH, in the past 14 days, 21 cases have been reported in Hilo, 56 in Kona and 17 in North Hawaii, the DOH said.
The frequency of mask-wearing on Hawaii Island also is increasing, according to the DOH.
During the week of Dec. 27, 545 people, or 95% of those observed, were wearing masks correctly. Twenty-two, or 4%, were wearing masks incorrectly, and seven, or 1%, were not observed wearing a mask.
