The storm formed earlier this week in the Eastern Pacific and was quickly named Tropical Storm Boris, although by Friday morning it had already been downgraded to Tropical Depression Boris.
By midday Friday, Boris was entering the Central Pacific roughly 1,200 miles southeast of Hilo, generating maximum sustained winds of 35 miles per hour.
However, the National Hurricane Center predicts the storm will be reduced to a post-tropical storm between today and Sunday and will largely dissipate by the end of the weekend.
The first Pacific tropical storm of 2020 was Tropical Storm Amanda, which cut across Central America in May, killing 26 people in Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras.
While there are no other storms currently in the Eastern or Central Pacific, there are two disturbances off the Central American coast that the National Hurricane Center reports have a slight chance of developing into cyclones within the next two days.
