Police charged 51-year-old Stanley Marion Cummins of Pahoa with second-degree murder on Sunday following the death of a man in the Hawaiian Shores subdivision of Puna.
Police charged 51-year-old Stanley Marion Cummins of Pahoa with second-degree murder on Sunday following the death of a man in the Hawaiian Shores subdivision of Puna.
The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Jace Whitney Keakahi Ahquin of Pahoa. Ahquin had been renting a room from Cummins who is the owner of the home.
Officers responded shortly before 7 a.m. Saturday to the residence. The victim was discovered in bed with apparent traumatic injuries to his head and face area consistent with a beating.
Police and fire department medics performed CPR, unsuccessfully. The victim was pronounced dead at 12:05 p.m. at Hilo Medical Center.
Cummins is being held in lieu of $1,000,000 bail pending his initial court appearance scheduled for today in Hilo District Court.
