Hawaii County will receive another $30 million in federal funding to restore water systems damaged during the 2018 Kilauea eruption.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced Tuesday that $30 million will be awarded to the county Department of Water Supply to repair two reservoirs and 15 miles of water lines that were destroyed during the eruption, although that funding can be used for alternative projects as well.
“These urgently needed repairs to water systems on Hawaii Island will help impacted communities that are still recovering from the devastation caused by the 2018 eruption of Kilauea,” said U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono, a Hawaii Democrat, in a statement Tuesday. “I will continue to advocate to ensure the County of Hawaii receives the federal assistance they need to rebuild communities.”
