Police: South Kona man fatally shot, suspect in custody

Police have arrested a 66-year-old Captain Cook man on suspicion of murder after a shooting Tuesday night left a 45-year-old Captain Cook man dead.

Police say officers responded to a 9:09 p.m. call to the 83-5000 block of Middle Keei Road in Captain Cook and found a man who had been shot.

James Bonham, 66, of Captain Cook was arrested at the scene and booked on suspicion of attempted murder. He hasn’t yet been charged pending investigation by Kona Criminal Investigation Section detectives.

The victim was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police aren’t releasing the victim’s name pending positive identification and notification of next of kin. An autopsy has been ordered.
