Starting May 2, the Kalapana transfer station will be open one day per week, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays, the county announced in a statement Thursday.
The site will accept only household solid waste, one load per day with a maximum load size of 3 cubic yards, the amount of waste that will fit in a full-size pickup truck loaded up to the side rails.
Green waste and recyclable materials must be taken to the Pahoa transfer station, which is open 6 a.m.-6 p.m. seven days a week.
