So far this year, there have been 939 DUI arrests compared to 944 during the same period last year, a decrease of 0.53 percent.
There have been 838 major accidents so far this year compared to 1,022 during the same period last year, a decrease of 18 percent.
To date, there have been 18 official fatalities compared to 27 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 33.3 percent for fatalities. There have also been three road deaths police don’t count toward the official total — one because the driver was found to have died from a medical condition, another because the driver was found to have died because of natural causes and a third because the fatality occurred in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, which isn’t in Hawaii Police Department jurisdiction.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
