The University of Hawaii has pushed back the date for a discussion on new proposed Maunakea administrative rules to November.
Action on the new proposed rules has been postponed several times this year, but was previously scheduled for Aug. 30. It is now scheduled to take place Nov. 6.
The proposed rules, which are intended to “provide for the proper use, management, and protection of cultural, natural, and scientific resources of the UH management areas,” will be publicly posted no later than six days before the meeting.
Members of the public will be able to submit testimony at the Nov. meeting, as they have at two previous hearings in the past year.
At the meeting, the UH Board of Regents may be able to adopt the rules, if they are not significantly different from current rules. Alternatively, they can request a third round of public hearings or defer their final decision.
