Hilo shooting victim’s condition improving

A 35-year-old Hilo woman remains hospitalized today following a shooting early Thursday afternoon at a residence on upper Kaiwiki Road.

Police say the condition of the victim, identified by neighbors as Miya Pumehana Napoleon, also known as Miya Sagucio, has been upgraded from critical to serious but stable.

Her husband, 41-year-old Corey Kahuhipa Napoleon of Hilo, remains in police custody on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder. He’s not yet been charged. Detectives from the Hilo Criminal Investation and Juvenile Aid sections continue to investigate, and have until 1:50 p.m. Saturday to charge Napoleon or release him pending further investigation.
