Christian Cedillos was the man of the hour for Kohala’s boys soccer team.
The senior scored a goal Thursday in a 1-1 tie against against Makua Lani in Kailua-Kona that secured the final BIIF Division II boys playoff spot for the Cowboys.
The draw also cost the Lions (9-5-1) a chance at earning an automatic state berth. Instead, Makua Lani will be the second seed and host Honokaa on Monday in the BIIF semifinals. Steven Perrino scored for the Lions.
Kamehameha gets the top seed and will welcome Kohala on Monday, when both state tournament berths will be on the line.
The Cowboys (5-9-1) clinched the fourth seed when Konawaena (5-10) lost its finale Thursday night to Kealakehe.
Hawaii Prep 4, Waiakea 2: Jake Schneider and Brendan Moynahan each scored twice at Ken Yamase Memorial Stadium as the Ka Makani relegated the Warriors to the No. 4 seed and a rematch in the Division I semifinals.
The Warriors (9-4-1), who got goals from Riley Tamanaha and Chase Kotomori, will play at HPA (13-1) at 3 p.m. Monday, having lost three of four.
Schneider converted on a penalty kick and now has 39 goals this season, and Tage Boyette and Noah Balaam had assists.
Hilo 9, Keaau 0: Riley Patterson increased his goal total to a league-best 40 with four more at Hilo Bayfront as the Vikings head to the playoffs on a 12-game unbeaten streak.
Logan Mizuba recorded a hat trick for Hilo (11-2-1) and Josh Rosario and Jack Mann each scored once for as the second-seeded Viks prepare to host Kealakehe in Monday’s semifinals.
Jase Ambrosio was credited with the shutout against the Cougars (1-13).
