Julia K. Amaral, 85, of Naalehu died Nov. 3 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Naalehu she was a sewing instructor, state X-ray technician assistant, a food services manager assistant for Naalehu School, homemaker and member of Naalehu Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Visitation 8:30-10 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 24) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial service at 10 a.m. Graveside urn committal service 9 a.m. Monday (Nov. 26) at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Survived by sons, Michael T. (Bernalda) Amaral of Kealia, Melvin T. Amaral of Ewa Beach, Oahu, and Peter B. Amaral Jr. of Naalehu; daughter, Cynthia M. (Michael) Tonini of Naalehu; brothers, Frank (Rita) Kahakua of Ewa Beach, James (Nora) Kahakua of Honolulu and Herbert (Karen) Kahakua of Ocean View; brother-in-law, Gene Madriaga of Hilo; sisters, Gladys Wilson of Naalehu, Elizabeth (Chris) Asuncion of Kona and Eleanor Kepner of Honolulu; sister-in-law, Thelma Kahakua of Mountain View; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Janet Hatsuyo Hamamoto, 59, of Kurtistown died Nov. 7 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Pahala, she was co-owner of K. Hamamoto Farms, an employee of the former Hilo Radio Appliance and a member of Soka Gakkai International-USA. Private services held. Survived by husband, Kert Hamamoto of Kurtistown; daughters, Jennifer Hamamoto and Kristy Hamamoto of Kurtistown; mother, Tomeyo Kawakami of Naalehu; brothers, Kent Kawakami of Naalehu and Glen (Trisha) Kawakami of Honolulu; sisters, Aileen (Steve) Oyama and Iris (Michael) Subica of Naalehu; nieces and nephews. Margaret Masako Hiyama, 84, of Hilo died Nov. 14 at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Hilo, she was a registered nurse at The Queen’s Medical Center, obstetrics nurse at Hilo Medical Center and member of New Hope Hilo. Graveside service 9:45 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 24) at Homelani Memorial Park, Lehua Section. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Clifford Kinji Nagao, 93, of Kurtistown died Aug. 3 at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center in Hilo. Born in Kurtistown, he was a retired police officer, airport security officer and farmer.
