Jeannie Akalia Bargas, 74, of Keaau died Oct. 25 at home. Born in Honolulu, she was a foster parent, musician and member of New Hope East Hawaii. Visitation 1-2 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 4) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Funeral service at 2 p.m. Casual attire; flowers and lei welcome. Burial at Alae Cemetery, new section. Survived by husband, Charles J. Bargas of Keaau; sons, John (Denise) Acasia of Kona and Todd (Jenelle) Ortiz of Pahoa; stepsons, Micah (Sundie) Bargas of Honolulu, Charles Bargas Jr. and Jeremy Bargas of Washington state; foster children, Isaiah, Ciana, Wyatt and Ochon; brother, Henry (Ceralyin) Acasia of Keaau; sisters, Rosaline Soto and Irvine Joseph of Pahoa; six grandchildren and five-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Dana West Carvalho, 69, of Holualoa died Oct. 16 at home. Born in Corpus Christi, Texas, she was a preschool director and member of Kai E Hitu Canoe Club, Kai O Pua Canoe Club and Angel Fire New Mexico Hiking Club. Private services at a later date. Michael Kelly Sr., 80, of Hilo died Oct. 17 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo. Born in Nelsonville, Ohio, he was retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer. Private services held. Survived by sons, Michael Kelly Jr. of Hilo and Mark (Maria) Kelly of Concord, Calif.; daughter, Maureen Kelly of Paauilo; brothers, King Kelly and Timothy (Christina) Kelly of Nelsonville, Shayne Kelly of Lancaster, Ohio, Thomas (Marie) Kelly of Canyonville, Ore., Patrick (Debra) Kelly of The Plains, Ohio, Shawn Kelly of Newark, Ohio, and Daniel Kelly of Logan, Ohio; sister, Sheila (Bill) Strosnider of West Virginia; two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. George “SgtMaj” Olivar, 81, of Lompoc, Calif., died Oct. 17 at home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired Secret Service agent assigned to protect President Ronald Reagan, retired U.S. Marine Corps sergeant major who served three tours of combat duty in Vietnam and National Guard veteran who enjoyed smoking meat, drag racing, NASCAR, fishing, family and sporting events and marksmanship. Services held. Survived by wife, Annabelle “Ann” Olivar; sons, Bruce “TY” Olivar and Brian Olivar; brothers, Robert “Bobby” Olivar and Jerry Olivar; sisters, Marylyn Ota, Judi Nabers and Karlene Tamayo; daughter-in-law, Linda Jarrett-Olivar; two granddaughters, three stepgrandchildren and a great-granddaughter. Kotaro “Lefty” Onishi, 87, of Pahoa died Oct. 20 at home. Born in Papaikou, he was a retired supervisor for Jas. W. Glover Ltd., member of Nichiren Shoshu and Hi-Ways Golf Club and an avid bowler. No services. No flowers or koden. Survived by daughters, Susan Saruwatari of Hilo and Iris (Robert) Handa of Colorado; brother, Yorio (Yasuko) Onishi of Hilo; sister, Sueko Yorita of Hilo; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
