Boys & Girls Club of the Big Island members and their families from Pahoa, Keaau and Hilo gathered in May at the Hilo Club to celebrate a successful and fun end to this year’s after-school programming.

Sounds of excitement and laughter filled the air as children played carnival games and took turns on the inflatable slide and bouncy castle. In a special photo booth, youth and family members put on costumes and had delightful pictures taken.

“To see families enjoying these activities together was heart-warming,” said Chad Cabral, BGCBI CEO. “The event was a special and welcome respite from the lava flow and all its stressful consequences.”

Parents appreciated the program staff and youth put together. Hundreds of prizes were distributed, including candy, toys, new bicycles, tablet computers and the grand prize of a $250 gift certificate.

“Over 100 BGCBI youth and family members came together for a day of fun and food,” Cabral said. “A good time was had by all.”
