Volcano Art Center’s 2018 Hula Voices series continues from 7-8 p.m. May 3 with special guest Noe Noe Wong-Wilson.
Each month, Hula Voices presents an engaging, intimate “talk story” session with Hawaii Island’s hula practitioners, as they share their hula genealogy, traditions, protocols and experiences. These free, educational offerings occur regularly on the first Thursday of each month at the Volcano Art Center Gallery in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
The May 3 program will feature Wong-Wilson with moderator Desiree Moana Cruz. Wong-Wilson is executive director of the nonprofit organization Lalakea Foundation and project director of Ka ʻAha Hula ʻO Halauaola 2018.
Wong-Wilson is a Hawaiian hula and cultural practitioner and has a bachelor’s degree in anthropology specializing in Hawaiian cultural anthropology from the University of Hawaii at Hilo, a master’s in Pacific Islands studies from UH-Manoa and a Doctor of Philosophy from University of Waikato’s School of Maori and Indigenous Studies.
She is a longtime resident of Hilo and serves as president of the Hawaiian Civic Club of Hilo.
