Juan-Diego “Chico” Bernard, 67, of Pepeekeo died April 15 at home. Born in Loma Hoby, Primavera, Paraguay, he was a former truck driver for Eagle Heart in Oregon. No services. Survived by son, Geronimo Bernard; sisters, Christina Bernard, Anita Adam, Holly Bernard, Elizabeth (Josu) De Unzueta and Irena Bernard; brothers, Don Rene (Rosalia) Bernard and Seth (Hana) Bernard; an uncle, nieces, nephews and cousins. Sadami “Lefty” Fukushima, 99, of Hilo died April 4 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hilo, he was a retired carpenter and member of Hilo Meishoin Buddhist Temple and Hawaii Carpenters Union. Gene Norbert Kaimipono Haleamau, 72, of Hilo died March 29 at home. Born in Hilo, he was a stevedore for HT&T and Matson, a U.S. Air Force veteran and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo. Hazel W. Kawai Pu, 84, of Waianae, Oahu, died Feb. 15 at Kalakaua Gardens in Honolulu. Born in South Kohala, she was retired from the Board of Water Supply, a U.S. Navy veteran and volunteer at St. Rita’s Church in Nanakuli, Oahu. Services held.
