East Hawaii professional photographers Reed and Jay Takaaze recently opened Takaaze Art Gallery at 1420 Kilauea Ave. in Hilo.

“Our goal at the gallery is not only to provide outstanding artwork for people’s home or office, but to immerse them in familiar scenes that will evoke memories and continually remind people of all ages of what a privilege it is to be living in such an exceptionally beautiful island,” Reed Takaaze said.

“It’s an opportunity to share photographic art that preserves the uniqueness of Hawaii Island.”

Hawaii Island has always been the Takaaze brothers’ home. They grew up in a plantation camp in Papaikou, where their father worked for the Onomea Sugar Plantation on the Hamakua Coast.

Many will recognize Reed and Jay Takaaze from their 40 years of serving the photographic needs of Big Islanders. They both have master’s degrees in photography.
