Switchback’s energetic, heartfelt, music combines elements of Americana-country, rock and Celtic music and will be coming to the Kahilu Theatre stage at 7 p.m. Monday in Waimea.
Switchback is the award-winning duo of Brian FitzGerald and Martin McCormack playing an exciting mix of mandolin, guitar and bass. These musical geniuses draw their inspiration from traditional Celtic music and original Americana songs that reflect their Irish heritage and Midwestern roots.
They have a seamless ability to blend Celtic tribal beats with the raw energy of the wide-open American plains, their beautifully crafted songs have been said to move the feet and sway the heart.
On top of their usual tour schedule, Switchback regularly presents outreach programs for schools, community events, senior citizen groups and special needs audiences. They offer outreach programs about Celtic music, songwriting and music appreciation, as well as music residencies.
Their talents as musicians have given them international recognition and often are described as honest, spirited, heartfelt and humorous.

Of course, no Celtic-inspired band would be complete without the accompaniment of Irish step dancing.
Joining FitzGerald and McCormick onstage for select numbers will be members of Big Island Hawaii Irish Dance, a dance school with classes and performance troupes on the Big Island and Oahu. Big Island classes are offered in Waimea for all ages and levels, and new dancers are always welcome.
