Yada falls at Q-school
Britney Yada, a 2009 Waiakea graduate, shot a 4-over 73-74-71-72-74—364 total and placed tied for 56th with Honolulu’s Nicole Sakamoto at the LPGA’s Qualifying Tournament’s Stage III, which concluded Sunday at Daytona Beach Fla.
The top 20 finishers earned full-time cards to the LPGA Tour next year while finishers 21-45 received part-time cards.
Big Island Wood Bat
The Big Island Wood Bat Academy and Trosky Baseball will be holding a youth clinic and showcase from December 15-December 17. There will be numerous colleges in attendance along with pro scouts from the Baltimore Orioles, Milwaukee Brewers, Colorado Rockies, Chicago Cubs and others. HSJGA Wie tourney
Hilo’s Kailey Oki was sixth and Lacey Uchida tied for seventh for the girls 13-14 age division at the Michelle Wie Hawaii State Junior Golf Association’s Tournament of Champions held Saturday-Sunday on Maui.
Oki finished with a 79-81—160 total, 13 shots back of medalist Lana Kwee from Maui. Uchida had a 77-84—161 total.
Hilo’s Jake Otani was third in the boys 7-10 division with an 89-88—177 total, 13 shots back of medalist Bryce Toledo-Lue from Aiea.
Hilo’s Dysen Park was second in the boys 11-12 division with a 76-77—153 total, two shots behind medalist Joshua Chung from Honolulu.
Hilo’s Isaiah Kanno was fourth in the boys 13-14 division with a 78-74—152 total, seven shots back of medalist Peter Jung of Mililani. Keaau’s Dillon Ah Chong was sixth with an 82-81—163 total.
Hilo’s Pono Yanagi was sixth in the boys 15-18 division with a 76-77—153 total, 10 shots behind medalist Evan Kawai from Honolulu.
Vuls take on UH
The UH-Hilo men’s basketball team (3-4) will travel to play UH-Manoa at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center. The game will be televised on Spectrum OC16 and aired on ESPN radio 1420 AM.
The game will count for the Rainbow Warriors, who are 8-0 all-time against the Vuls. Last year, UH topped the Vuls 88-55. The game will be an exhibition for UHH.
Waiakea keiki run
Waiakea High School’s 12th annual Healthy Keiki Fun Run will take place on December 16, 2017 at Ken Yamase Stadium on campus. The fun run is for grades K-6 and is a 1500 meter course. This event consists of a run, health fair, and carnival games.

BISA clinic Dec. 9
The Big Island Sports Academy will host a youth basketball clinic from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Panaewa Park Gymnasium in Hilo for girls and boys grades 4-6.
The clinic is being led by Big Island Sports Academy’s John Livsey, and youth basketball coordinator and former UH-Hilo standout Franklin McKinney.
Registration is ongoing and applications can be obtained at all elementary schools, County of Hawaii Parks and Recreation Centers, or by contacting Livsey at mrjohnlivsey@gmail.com or 365-4831.
Cost is $25 per person.
There will also be onsite registration at 8:30 a.m.
T-ball, coach-pitch
The Department of Parks and Recreation will hold an organizational meeting for T-ball (ages 5-6) and coach-pitch (7-8) at 5 p.m. Dec. 13 at Aunty Sally’s Luau House.
Coaches or team representatives must attend this mandatory meeting to enter a team in the league.
League rules, format and tournament dates will be discussed at this time. The cutoff date is May 1, 2018 to be eligible to play in the league.
