Lex Brodie’s is expanding in Hilo, with a car wash and more to open next year.

Construction started recently at 1089 Kilauea Ave. and is scheduled to be done in September 2018, though managing partner Mark Leong said he is hoping to see it open a month or two sooner.

He said they purchased the site in early 2015.

“We’ve had various plans and we finally got everything done and we’re starting construction,” Leong said.

In addition to an “express car wash,” customers can get all their essential vehicle maintenance done, including oil changes.

Leong said it will be similar to the Kona location. He said a tire center also is planned.

He said the existing Hilo location at 170 Wiwoole St. also will remain open.

Leong expects hiring to begin in about eight months.
