The UH-Hilo women’s soccer team’s defense held tough against Azusa Pacific, which kept taking aim at goalie Jenna Hufford, who had nine saves.

The Vulcans and Cougars tied 0-0 in a PacWest match on Tuesday at Azusa, Calif., after 110 scoreless minutes.

UHH (3-3-1, 0-2-1 PacWest) snapped a three-match skid.

APU (2-3-1, 2-0-1) fired 20 shots, including nine on goal.

The Vuls took eight shots, including three on goal.

UHH gave up only six goals in its six previous matches while the Cougars surrendered six in their last five.

With 12 minutes left, UHH’s Jaimie Salas had a one-on-one attempt, but she missed wide on her shot. She had another shot with three minutes left that was saved.

The Vulcans play Academy of Art at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Kamehameha’s Paiea Stadium.

Men

In a battle between winless teams, the Vulcans fell short, losing 3-1 to the Cougars.

Bryan Reynoso scored UHH’s third goal of the season for a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute.

But APU scored five minutes later, added the go-ahead right before halftime, and scored again with four minutes left in the match.

APU took 19 shots, including nine on goal. UHH fired eight shots, including five on goal.

The Vuls (0-6, 0-3), along with Holy Names (0-6, 0-1) are the only teams in the conference without a victory.

The Cougars (1-5-1, 1-1-1) picked up their first win of the season.

UHH will host AAU at 7 p.m. Saturday at Kamehameha.
