Big Island Walmart stores in Hilo and Kailua-Kona will be among 4,700 locations nationwide to host Walmart Wellness Day from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.
The free health screening event provides Hawaii Island residents an opportunity to learn valuable health information such as:
• Blood glucose
• Blood pressure
• Body mass index
• Low-cost immunizations
• Free vision screenings (at select stores)
This will be the second Walmart Wellness Day for which the company has teamed up with the American Diabetes Association to provide support beyond event day, offering additional support to customers whose screening results indicate a risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
In Hawaii, according to ADA, nearly 600,000 people are living with pre-diabetes or diabetes, affecting one in three individuals. ADA estimates nearly 8 million people with diabetes are undiagnosed.
