Honokaa (2-0, 1-0 BIIF Division II) at Hilo (2-0, 1-0 BIIF Division I), 7:30 p.m. Friday

The Dragons are excited to be facing someone other than Waiakea after beating the Warriors away and at home, but the Vikings are a different animal, scoring 132 points in two games.

The touchdown tracker on Hilo senior running back Kahale Huddleston stands at 10 and counting, including three kickoff returns for score.

Riding a big game from Sheltyn Carvalho and the defense, Honokaa made enough plays on offense last Friday in a 25-8 victory.

Coach Noeau Lindsey knows his team will need to execute more consistently against the Vikings at Wong Stadium.

Keaau (0-1 BIIF Division I) at Konawaena (1-2, 1-0 BIIF Division II), 7:30 p.m.

The Cougars go from a rock to a hard place.

The Wildcats sputtered through the preseason, but Konawaena got back in business last week against Kealakehe behind quarterback Austin Ewing’s five touchdowns.

Coming off a 40-6 loss at Kamehameha, Keaau is looking to make a big improvement between weeks one and two.

“Let’s pray we do,” coach Leo Abellera said. “That’s the goal.

“We played better in the second half, but (Konawaena) is another tough one.”

Running back Junior Santiago could be used to try and keep the ball out of Ewing’s hands after amassing 130 yards in the opener.

Hawaii Prep (1-1, 0-1 BIIF Division II) at Waiakea (1-3, 0-1 BIIF Division I), 1 p.m. Saturday

The Warriors open a rare four-game homestand, and they could especially use a win this week with Hilo, Kamehameha and Konawaena to follow.

Waiakea’s defense played well at times last week at Honokaa, but it couldn’t make key stops when it counted.

After getting run over by Hilo last week, Ka Makani figure to be in for a much better matchup.

Kamehameha (3-1, 1-0 BIIF Division I) at Kealakehe (0-3, 0-1 BIIF Division I)

It’s early and the Warriors are still trying to improve, but coach Dan Lyons deemed all three of his units as being on track after the win against Keaau.

The Waveriders can’t say the same, not after 46-14 loss to Konawaena left it winless heading to September.

Kealakehe was winless last season when it went to Kamehameha and won 3-0 amid miserable conditions.

Barring bad weather Saturday, the Warriors will be hard to hold down in similar fashion after scoring 96 points the past two games.

“We aren’t preparing for an opponent, we are just trying to get better,” Lyons said.

Eight-man

Ka’u (0-1, 1-0 BIIF) at Kohala (0-1), 1 p.m.

This was the matchup to watch during the first three years of BIIF eight-man, but this time around each team is trying to keep pace with Pahoa, which beat the Trojans 32-8 last week in the only league game to date.

The Cowboys haven’t played since a lopsided loss to Molokai two weeks ago.
