The Hawaii Island Contractors’ Association welcomed guest speaker Mayor Harry Kim to its monthly general membership meeting April 20 at Nani Mau Gardens.

Kim took time to speak with members one-on-one and addressed the group as a whole, answering membership questions on various topics such as building permits, homelessness and noncommercial drones.

The well-attended event was sponsored by Awai & Sons Concrete, Backyard Monkey LLC, Bob’s Fencing and Sanford’s Service Center.

HICA represents nearly 150 companies in the industry islandwide. Members must be in good standing with the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs and RICO to apply for membership. Applications are subject to board approval.

“It’s a great place for members of the public to find licensed contractors they can depend on,” said Michele Robles of HICA.
