Surface flow nears emergency route

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reported as of Friday morning the surface lava flow from Pu‘u ‘O‘o has advanced to within less than a mile from the emergency road.

The 61g flow is still active and entering the ocean at Kamokuna. Other surface flows are streaming down the pali farther inland. None of these flows pose a threat to nearby communities at this time.
