Chaminade took advantages of one of its few scoring chances Thursday, turning it into a 1-0 victory against the Lady Vulcans at Paiea Stadium in Keaau.
UH-Hilo (2-3-3, 0-2-3 Pacific West Conference), which was missing three injured players that were to have received meaningful playing time, has netted only eight goals in eight matches.
It’s not rocket science, Okamura said.
“We didn’t finish our opportunities,” he said, “and they did.”
Caitlin Tatemichi scored the only goal in the 22nd minute off a pass from Kelli Fryxell. Chaminade (2-3, 2-6) avenged an earlier nonconference loss this season in Keaau.
UH-Hilo’s Kayela Santiago had the best chance at an equalizer in the second half, but her breakaway was thwarted when Silverswords goalie Brandee Lane came out and made a sliding stop.
The Vulcans’ chances at a comeback were further hampered when Sophie Satterlee was ejected with a red card with just more than five minutes remaining in the match.
“We lost our composure,” Okamura said.
Jenna Hufford made four saves for UH-Hilo.
The Chaminade men (3-2, 3-4) also avenged an earlier loss to the Vuls (0-4-1, 1-7-1) scoring twice in the first half for a 2-0 victory.
