Curt Kiriu, a certified aging-in-place specialist, will bring his expertise to Hawaii Island Adult Care’s next Family Caregiver Respite Day from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday.

HIAC invites caregivers and patients to talk-story about caring for and working with elders.

With more than 28 years of experience in custom design and construction in residential homes and luxury condos, Kiriu also draws on his own experience of being his father’s primary caregiver for 17 years.

“He’s developed a successful and accessible way of approaching home modifications that help seniors and the physically challenged maintain their independence while staying in their own homes,” said Lizby Logsdon, Hawaii Island Adult Care community outreach specialist.

Kiriu is an innovative leader in his industry and was recognized in 2014 as the Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist of the Year from the National Association of Home Builders.

“Stop by and also enjoy a massage, yoga, healthy food tips and spend some time with fellow caregivers,” Logsdon said. “And yes, your loved ones are welcome — we’ll look after them while you enjoy some respite time.”
