The East Hawaii Hiroshima Kenjin Kai presented a $1,000 scholarship to Hilo High School graduate Kenneth S. Kitahata for his excellence in academic, co-curricular and extracurricular achievements.

The East Hawaii Hiroshima Kenjin Kai presented a $1,000 scholarship to Hilo High School graduate Kenneth S. Kitahata for his excellence in academic, co-curricular and extracurricular achievements.

Kitahata was a valedictorian of the class of 2016, class treasurer all four years of high school and has had numerous leadership positions with Special Olympics, Leo Club and Junior Achievement.

Kitahata is the son of EHHKK members Gary Kitahata and Arlene Kimata of Hilo. He plans to attend Oberlin College in Ohio to pursue a career in business.

Educational scholarships are given by the EHHKK to eligible children and grandchildren of members.
