The sixth biennial Abstract Only! multimedia, juried exhibit sponsored by the Hawaii Island Art Alliance and the Wailoa Center will receive art entries 10 a.m.-3 p.m. July 30 at Wailoa Center.
The center is located at 200 Piopio St. in Hilo. There is a three-entry limit; any media and size can be submitted. The committee from the state Foundation on Culture and Arts will review this exhibit for possible Acquisition Awards nominations. Abstract Only! exhibit dates are Aug. 5-25, with an opening reception for the artists from 5-7 p.m. Aug 5.
HIAA is honored to present as this year’s Abstract Only! juror Neida Bangerter, who is the director at the Maui Arts &Cultural Center’s Schaefer International Gallery, where she oversees curation, organization, design of exhibitions and gallery education programs. She is on the state Foundation on Culture and Arts advanced teaching artist roster with more than 20 years experience in developing arts programming.
In connection with the Abstract Only! exhibit, HIAA is sponsoring “Sharing Your Art Work: The Rewards of Review and Direction.” Build your artistic career and professional development during a private, one-on-one session with Bangerter.
Artists can bring a small body of original works in progress, or completed works for discussion on further development. The work can be in any medium, genre or artistic direction and is not limited to abstraction only. You also can bring images on a CD or USB device to be viewed on a monitor.
Interested artists can submit their name, address, email address and contact phone number to hiartalliance@gmail.com to be put on a list. There will be eight 30-minute sessions from 10 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. July 29. There is a $40 nonrefundable fee per session.
Names will be added to a lottery and determined by a random drawing July 15.
