The Big Island’s own Pedro Kaawaloa is “Back on Da Island” — bringing the sounds of Broadway, R&B, opera and more for two shows at the East Hawaii Cultural Center, 141 Kalakaua St. in Hilo.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

The program includes music from Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, “The Lion King,” “Beauty and the Beast,” Puccini, and what Kaawaloa describes as “some traditional Broadway and plenty of contemporary Broadway.”

Kaawaloa, who has starred in numerous local musical theater productions, has enjoyed a successful career as a stage actor and musical theater performer on the mainland the past couple of years.

“I am incredibly grateful for everything the universe has given me so far,” Kaawaloa said. “I feel like I have grown as a performer and I am excited to sing at home again as I continue to grow. I’ll be singing songs from my audition book, songs I have performed in cabarets and songs I’ve been wanting to learn for a while now.”

Joining Kaawaloa on stage will be vocalists Rachel Edwards and Samantha Saiki, and pianist Mikala Thomas.

Tickets are $10 at the door.
