Vulcans finish trip with loss

Vulcans finish trip with loss

After striking for four runs in the second inning Tuesday, UH-Hilo’s baseball team seemingly was already set to head home.

It didn’t score again, and San Francisco State answered with six runs in the fifth and went on to a 11-4 victory as the Vulcans ended their Northern California road trip 3-6.

Michael Jenkerson had a hot bat for UH-Hilo (7-31), going 3 for 4 with an RBI single. Edison Sakata and Jenkerson scored on Kyle Yamada’s two-run double, but the Vulcans weren’t heard from again, and Logan Marston’s two-run home run off Cole Nakachi (0-1) put the Gators (19-20) in front.

Nakachi (0-1) relieved Jordan Kumasaka (four runs allowed, seven hits, two walks, five strikeouts) with no outs in the fifth.

The Vulcans finish the season with home doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday against Hawaii Pacific.
