Police have identified an 18-year-old man who died Wednesday afternoon after being swept down the Wailuku River as Kevin Jay Ishikawa Hilo.

Police have identified an 18-year-old man who died Wednesday afternoon after being swept down the Wailuku River as Kevin Jay Ishikawa Hilo.

Officers responding to a 3:34 p.m. call learned that Ishikawa had been crossing the river after swimming with three friends near Piihonua bridge, when he was swept downstream. Two friends pulled him from the river and attempted CPR until Fire Department personnel arrived.

Ishikawa was pronounced dead at 4:24 p.m. at Hilo Medical Center.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
