Sangha Hall at the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin Buddhist Temple is humming with activity as ladies from the Buddhist Women’s Association prepare for its huge annual garage sale from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.

Workers have been going back and forth carrying boxes of housewares and clothing with tape in hand, tirelessly working to clean, sort and price the merchandise as they come down to the wire.

While some are preparing at Sangha Hall, others are busy in the kitchen preparing food for sale.

“We are so fortunate to have our members and people from the community donate merchandise,” said Ruby Maekawa, BWA president. “I hope people will come to check out all the bargains, especially because we received so many items. This year has been especially busy since we have been busy making food for sale, especially manju and nishime.”

Maekawa says people look forward to the garage sale, lining up as early as 5 a.m.

The Honpa Hong-wanji Hilo Betsuin Buddhist Temple is located at 398 Kilauea Ave. For more information, call 961-6677.
