The Hilo Medical Center Auxiliary awarded 12 scholarships to nursing students for the 2015 spring semester.

The Hilo Medical Center Auxiliary awarded 12 scholarships to nursing students for the 2015 spring semester.

The $1,000 scholarships are available to students in the nursing programs at Hawaii Community College and the University of Hawaii at Hilo. Applicants must be enrolled in the nursing program with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The recipients this year were Haylee Chung, Kyle Chun, Anthony Daub, Tobi Hoff, Jason Johnson, Valerie Lazickas, Jaeline Lee, Norman Magote, Lauren Miho, Nicole Talisay, Shelby Tanaka and Sasha Tokuda.

Scholarship funds are provided by proceeds from the Palm Tree Gift Shop in the lobby of Hilo Medical Center.

The gift shop is managed by Virginia Maeda, who has operated the store for nearly 30 years. Members of the auxiliary volunteer their time to work in the shop.
