To love Shakespeare or not to love Shakespeare?
Actors interested in a campy collection of Shakespeare’s plays such as “Hamlet,” “Macbeth” or “Romeo and Juliet” are welcome to audition for “I Hate Shakespeare!” directed by University of Hawaii at Hilo performing arts major Alston Albarado.
Auditions are 7-9 p.m. May 8-9 in the upstairs theater of the East Hawaii Cultural Center’s Museum of Contemporary Art, across from Kalakaua Park in downtown Hilo.
The show will be performed in July in Kalakaua Park.
The characters range from traditional parts to modern re-tellings, with fun additions such as zombies, talk-show hosts and even talking cows.
Adult, high school and middle school actors are invited to audition.
The play will follow the same traditions set as the previous “Kid Shakes,” by using the same set for the main show and inviting the public to a fun lunchtime performance.
