In support of Women’s History Month, the art department at the University of Hawaii at Hilo organized a free public lecture presentation by art historian and poet Jan Garden Castro.
Castro’s presentation, titled “Louise Bourgeois and Maya Lin: Transforming Psychology and Topography into Art,” is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in UCB 127.
Bourgeois and Lin are recognized for having pioneered new art directions in the 21st century. Castro’s presentation will highlight how and why each artist changed art forever, followed by a group discussion.
As a freelance art historian, Castro is co-curating “New Ways of Seeing: Cultural Hybridity and Aesthetic Liberty” in May at the Dorsky Gallery, Long Island City. Her books include “The Art & Life of Georgia O’Keeffe” and “Sonia Delaunay: La Moderne” (Japan Association of Art Museums). Castro was a finalist for the Adirondack Review Fulton Fiction Prize, and received the CCLM Editor’s Award as editor of River Styx Magazine. She also is the author of a boxed letterpress poetry collection, “The Last Frontier.”
