In its Friday eruption update, Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reported the front of the June 27 lava flow again remained largely unchanged, based on a Friday morning overflight by Hawaii County Civil Defense.
In addition, only “minor activity was observed at the upslope lobe that had been advancing slowly along the north margin of the existing flow over the past few days. There was surface lava closer to the area where the lava exits the crack system, about 3 km (2 miles) towards Pu‘u ‘O‘o from the flow front,” the update reads.
An updated map on the HVO website showed that the leading edge of the front had not made any significant progress down the mountain since Sunday.
