Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin recently welcomed the Rev. Bryan Siebuhr of Chicago.

During October, Siebuhr will teach a four-session course presenting a study of religion. The “Introduction to Religion” course is outside any particular religious viewpoint, while drawing from multiple disciplines, including anthropology, literature, psychology, philosophy and history.

“It is hoped that such an approach will provide a background assisting those seeking to study Buddhism, or any major religion,” Siebuhr said.

Classes are scheduled from 10-10:45 a.m. on Saturdays beginning on Oct. 4.

Registration information can be obtained by calling 961-6677 or stopping by the Hilo Betsuin office at 398 Kilauea Ave., next to Starbuck’s in downtown Hilo.
