Hawaii County Council member Valerie Poindexter has joined the National Association of Counties’ health steering committee.

Hawaii County Council member Valerie Poindexter has joined the National Association of Counties’ health steering committee.

Association President Riki Hokama confirmed the appointment in a letter Aug. 26.

The committee addresses all matters pertaining to public health and healthy communities, according to a press release.

“I want to express my humble and deepest appreciation to both our NAC President Riki Hokama and Hawaii State Association of Counties (HSAC) President Mel Rapozo on recognizing the need for Hawaii to be at the table to address the gaps in our healthcare system,” Poindexter said in a statement. “This is a great opportunity for Hawaii.”
