HONOLULU (AP) — Honolulu is urging residents to prepare food, water and other emergency supplies to live on for seven days.
The city Department of Emergency Management said in a statement Monday Hurricane Iselle is expected to weaken and approach Hawaii as a tropical storm later this week.
Iselle could bring strong winds, flooding and storm surge.
Hawaii’s remoteness means it could be as long as a week before the government could begin a full relief operation if there’s a major disaster.
The department says Hawaii residents need to be prepared to take care of their emergency needs and those of their family for at least seven days following a major island or state-wide disaster.
Residents may go to www.oahudem.org for a list of items to keep in their Disaster Supply Kit.
