The annual benefit Preview Party kicks off the Hilo Orchid Society’s 62nd anniversary Orchid Show and Sale from 6-9 p.m. today at the Edith Kanaka‘ole Stadium. The gala event features drinks, food, music and orchid sales.
The annual benefit Preview Party kicks off the Hilo Orchid Society’s 62nd anniversary Orchid Show and Sale from 6-9 p.m. today at the Edith Kanaka‘ole Stadium. The gala event features drinks, food, music and orchid sales.
“The gorgeous and aromatic orchid displays coupled with views of the setting sun over Mauna Kea are the perfect setting for this ‘fun’-raiser,” said Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center Executive Director Julie Mitchell. “We are thrilled to once again partner with the Hilo Orchid Society as the beneficiary of the Preview Party.”
Each party-goer receives a souvenir glass, in order to enjoy a generous selection of fine wines, plus beer from Kona Brewing Co. Non-alcoholic beverages and coffee from Hilo Coffee Mill also will be served. Pupu, dinner and dessert buffets are compliments of Island Naturals and AJ &Sons Catering, featuring the food stylings of Dean Shigeoka and Audrey Wilson.
Throughout the evening, music by local artists will fill the stadium. The gala event is zero-waste, with eco-friendly eating utensils, plus recycling and composting stations.
Proceeds benefit the Hilo Orchid Society and Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center. The Hilo Orchid Society scholarship fund offers financial assistance to students of tropical agriculture at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center provides free and low-cost dispute prevention and resolution services to the East Hawaii community.
