Al Costa, 63, of Hilo died Sunday, May 4, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Portsmouth, Va., he taught at the high school and college levels. Private scattering of ashes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Hilo, 1011 Waianuenue Ave., Hilo, HI 96720-2019 or by visiting www.hospiceofhilo.org. Edward Kaikala “Napi” Napihaa Jr., 75, of Hilo, died April 11 at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in Hana, Maui, he was a retired customer service agent for Hawaiian Airlines, and served in the Hawaii Army National Guard. Visitation at 9 a.m. May 22 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hilo. Mass at 10 a.m. No flowers. Survived by mother, Anna Napihaa of Hilo; brothers, Anthony (Paula Ann) Napihaa, Roland Napihaa of California, Everett Napihaa of Pahoa; sisters, Patricia Napihaa of Pahoa, Hazel Miller of Pahoa, Margaret Moore of Honolulu and Mary (Joe) Farias of Hilo; hanai son, Robert Almeida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

William “Bill” John Kuloloia, 70, of Pahoa, formerly of Kaneohe, died April 30 at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a heavy equipment operator and a member of the Operators Engineer Union. A celebration of life will be held Friday, May 16, from 2-7 p.m. at the Ainaloa Longhouse. Survived by sons, John-Michael Kuloloia of Pahoa, and James “Kimo” Kuloloia of Pahoa; sisters, Leona (David) Tagupa of Las Vegas, Nev., and Eloise (Jerry) Umiamaka of Kaneohe; and brother, Douglas (Gail) Kuloloia of Las Vegas.

Marie Virginia Mayo, 90, of Kailua-Kona died May 6 at her residence. Born in Palo Alto, Penn., she retired from the federal government as an executive secretary, a member of St. James Episcopal Church and a WWII Navy veteran. Private service held. Survived by daughter, Judy (Jim) McManus of Kailua-Kona; son, Buck (Mary) Mayo of Spokane, Wash.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Arrangements by Cremation Services of West Hawaii.

Robert “Lopaka” Keawe Ryder, 37, of Kailua-Kona died March 11. Born in Honolulu, he was a singer, composer, musician, entertainer, fisherman, and coconut weaver. Celebration of life to be held at 11 a.m. May 24 at Hawaii Big Game Fishing Club at Honokohau Boat Harbor. Service at noon. Luncheon to follow. For information call 808-315-7032. Billy Chisato Unebasami, 90, of Hilo, died April 26, 2014 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Iwakuni, Yamaguchi, Japan, he was a retired sales representative and member of the Waiakea Uka Bible Church. Private services held. No koden. No flowers.
