The Hilo Community Players will host auditions for “This is Hamlet,” a fast-paced spoof with an assortment of villains, kings, ghosts and requisite grave diggers, in a lighthearted look at Shakespeare’s heftiest play.

The Hilo Community Players will host auditions for “This is Hamlet,” a fast-paced spoof with an assortment of villains, kings, ghosts and requisite grave diggers, in a lighthearted look at Shakespeare’s heftiest play.

Auditions for the new initiative, called “Kid Shakes,” will be noon Saturday, May 10, at the EHCC Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Art, 141 Kalakaua St., Hilo.

Adult, high school, and middle school actors are welcome to audition to create the nine leading roles and 22 other characters. No experience is required to audition.

“This is Hamlet” will be the matinee offering during the HCP Shakespeare-in-the-Park Summer 2014, with “Antony &Cleopatra” in the evenings. Six performances of “This is Hamlet” will take place at 11 a.m. in Kalakaua Park from July 10- 26.
