A brushfire near Punaluu Black Sands Beach Park in Ka‘u burned through about 12 acres of undeveloped land on Tuesday evening.

A brushfire near Punaluu Black Sands Beach Park in Ka‘u burned through about 12 acres of undeveloped land on Tuesday evening.

According to a written Fire Department release, 11 units responded to the 5:52 p.m. alarm. Firefighters had to battle the blaze through winds blowing northeasterly between 25-35 mph and were working to keep the fire away from the Colony One condominium complex.

The fire was reported under control shortly after 8 p.m. but had not been extinguished. A night watch crew was depoloyed to put out any flare-ups or hot spots.
