The Pahoa High and Intermediate School Community Council is accepting nominations for new members for the upcoming school year. There are two seats available, one for a community representative and the other for a parent representative.

Parents of currently enrolled students may nominate themselves or other parents of currently enrolled students at PHIS to run for a seat.

Community members may nominate themselves and/or others.

“School Community Councils are forums for exchanging ideas about how to improve student achievement among the school’s stakeholders: principals, teachers, school staff, parents, students, and community members,” states the Department of Education handbook on the matter.

“Their primary role is to participate in a process that ensures that the needs of all the students are specifically addressed in the overall educational plan for the school.”

The SCC meets one afternoon every month during the school year. Contact Angela Mangano at 313-4283. Nominations are due by April 24.
