AJA slugfest
Makoa Rosario batted 3 for 3 with three RBIs, and Kallen Ishii went 2 for 3 with two RBIs as the Keaukaha Legends defeated the unbeaten Waiakea Pirates 10-9 in an AJA Baseball Memorial game last Sunday at Wong Stadium.
The Legends (3-1) overcame five errors, scoring the tying and go-ahead runs in the top of the eighth inning, against the Pirates (4-1).
Bryce Onaga went 2 for 5 with four RBIs and Keola McCallum was 2 for 5 with three RBIs, and Kylen Uyeda was 2 for 5 to lead Waiakea.
Kobi Cadaroma went two innings and allowed five unearned runs to earn the win. Jordan Hirae pitched a scoreless inning for the save. Conrad Coffman started and went six innings of four-run work.
Candaroma also had a good day at the plate, 3 for 4 with four runs scored.
Michael Oshita took the loss with 2 2/3 innings of two-run relief.
In the other game, the Keaukaha Warriors pounded the Corsairs 11-1.
Cortney Arruda fired six innings of one-run ball for the win, and Michael Inaba finished up with a scoreless inning, whiffing two.
Evan Ishihara went 2 1/3 innings in the loss.
Troy Fujii went 2 for 2 with two RBIs and Inaba had two RBIs and Alten Penrose batted 2 for 3 to lead the Warriors (2-2).
The Corsairs (0-5) managed just two hits in the shortened seven-inning game.
This Sunday at Wong, the Legends an Corsairs play at 10 a.m. followed by the Pirates and Warriors at 12:30 p.m.

Big Island Junior Bowlers is holding registration for ages 8 to 20.
Sign-ups will be held at Hilo Lanes from 1-3 p.m. Feb. 1, and 12:30-1 p.m. Feb. 8 .

Haili tournaments around the corner
The Haili Girls Volleyball Tournament will be held Feb. 17-22 at Hilo Armory, with men’s, women’s, open, novice and juniors divisions.
For more information, call Lyndell Lindsey during the day at 961-3633. The entry deadline is Feb. 8.
Also, the 57th annual Haili Tournament will run from March 24-29, and the divisions are: juniors 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18, and men and women B, A, AA and masters.
There will be an entry fee for each tournament as well as concessions at most tournament sites.

The following names were misspelled or misrepresented in recent reports on Big Island Interscholastic Federation soccer matches:
—Hilo’s Keola Kelekolio, who scored a goal Saturday against Honokaa
—Kamehameha’s Jonah Brown, a goalkeeper who had a hand in the Warriors’ shutout win Tuesday;
—Waiakea’s Kaylee Valentino-Fergerstrom, who scored a goal for the Warriors on Monday.
