Sparked by balanced scoring from Aliyah Pana (12 points), Alexis Pana (11) and Chailey Cabalis (10), the Hilo girls beat Kohala 65-31 in a Big Island Interscholastic Federation game at Kawananakoa Gym, improving to 9-1.
Brittany Shimono scored nine points for the Cowgirls (6-4), who have lost three straight.
Hilo won the JV game 49-10.

Konawaena 9, Makua Lani 0: Kaulana Ruedy, Mikala Fernandez and Anna Tuppein scored two goals apiece to power Konawaena’s girls soccer team in Kealakekua.
With their fifth straight victory, the Wildcats (7-1-2) moved from fourth to second in the Division I standings and retained their designs on the top spot heading to the final day of the regular season. Konawaena needs a win Saturday at Waiakea and a Hilo loss at Hawaii Prep to secure the outright regular-season championship and the accompanying automatic berth to the Hawaii High School Athletic Association tournament. Regardless of how the Vikings do, the Wildcats can earn a home match in the Jan. 29 BIIF semifinals by beating the Warriors.
Nikki Kunitomo, Kyla Turpin and Keliya Kimitete-Pias rounded out the goal-scorers for the Wildcats on Wednesday. Goalkeeper Taiana Tolleson blanked the Lions (2-8).

Waiakea 9, Hawaii Academy of Arts & Science 0: Hajime Hayano bagged a hat trick in Pahoa as the Warriors ended a three-match winless streak.
Michael Scott and Tyler Kerr each scored twice and Ryder Oshiro and Ty Yamamoto also had goals for Waiakea (7-4-2), which moved into third place in Division I, two points ahead of Konawaena (6-2-2). The Wildcats and Warriors play Saturday in Hilo.
Waiakea’s Chris Wung and Zachary Tahara both played in net against Na Naia (0-12).
