ASHEVILLE, N.C. — A section of Blue Ridge Parkway closed last summer because of a 300-foot-long crack is being shut down once again.
The National Park Service says the stretch of road from Milepost 376 to Milepost 355 near the entrance to Mt. Mitchell State Park will close on Nov. 12. The closure allows work to resume on the stabilization of a slope at Milepost 374.
Workers built a 500-foot-long bypass to allow two-way traffic through the area.
It’s expected that the project will be completed by late spring of 2014.
It was reported at the time that the crack caused the northbound side of the parkway to slide away. A companion crack along the shoulder on the road’s slope side was more than 100 feet long and a foot wide in places.
