A Shriners Hospital team visits Hawaii Island frequently to screen new patients with orthopaedic conditions who may qualify for care at the new Honolulu hospital and to provide follow-up care for patients who are receiving ongoing care from Shriners Hospital.

This is the first of three planned screenings this year. Screenings are also planned in August and December.

There are two qualifications for care at Shriners Hospital: Children must be under age 18 and have an orthopaedic condition that can be treated. All care at the hospital is provided to a child, regardless of the patient’s family ability to pay.

The Shriners of the Aloha Temple also have a patient transportation fund, which is used for patients from the neighbor islands who may be eligible for transportation assistance to receive care at the Honolulu hospital.

A doctor’s referral is not necessary for the outreach clinic; however, if a patient travels to the Honolulu hospital for care, a referral from the patient’s doctor may be necessary. To schedule an appointment for the outreach clinic, call Sandy Zukeran at 951-3614 or (808) 375-9479.
